INSTRUCTIONS

Project 2: Shooting Practice and Editing
a. Exercise 1: Edit Lalin
This assignment requires us to work on compiling existing student shot clips resembling the Lalin ad and requires us to trim and compile the shots to exactly 35 seconds.
b. Exercise 2: Movie Trailer
This assignment requires us to shoot the clips together as a group which will be later used to edit a movie trailer.

PROJECT 2: SHOOTING PRACTICE AND EDITING

A. Exercise 1 Lalin
Exercise 1 requires us to take existing untrimmed shots of student filmed clips inspired by the Thai Advertisement Lalin, which we are required to trim, place in order and edit it to exactly 35 seconds.

The final submission is a youtube link.

Process
First I began with watching the trailer to get idea of the scene.

Then I looked through the reference storyboard for the assignment.

Exercise I started with importing the untrimmed clips into Premiere Pro and then began organizing files into two folders, one for footage and one for graphics.
Figure 1.3 Placing the footage files

Then I began trimming the files and aligning them with reference to the reference video and storyboard. After aligning the clips, I had to individually trim each clip again to fit the 30 second time limit.

Then the graphics were placed in order of the conversation that plays out in the reference trailer. After that I added transition to the graphics, with a block motion impact placed in the start and the cross dissolve in the end. Finally I added in the sound effect of the notification sound effect and aligned it to the same timing as the graphics.

REFLECTIONS

This assignment has allowed me dabble into video editing. With the first assignment I learned a lot about trimming the clips as there was a required time limit the final edited clip had to be. The video being 30 seconds forced me to cut out unnecessary length times from each shot and also forced me to priorities some shots over others. Adding the graphics layers on top along with the notification sound effect added an extra layer of difficulty of fitting within the time frame.

With the second exercise, I was able to tackle editing better and learn to prioritize certain clips over others, trim them done to the important parts and learn to create a story. Adding audio effects and music was an added level of difficult I had to tackle. Over all I learned a lot through this module allowing me to have a better grasp over the video editing process.
