LECTURES
For week 7 we learn about color theory. Color theory refers to the
science and art of using color.
There are two types of color wheel - RGB vs CMYK.
- CMYK are the primary colors of printing. CMYK color is created by the subtraction of light
- RGB color is used to display on your computer screen.
- Hue is the basic color of an object.
- Shade is a hue to which black has been added.
- Tint is a hue to which white has been added.
- Tone is a color to which black and white have been added.
Color harmony is the attractive arrangement of the color in
design.
We learnt about the different color schemes such as monochromatic,
analogous, complementary, split complementary, triadic.
- Monochromatic color scheme uses different tints and shades of one hue.
- Analogous color scheme uses 3 colors which is located right next to each other in the color wheel. Complementary uses colors opposite on the color wheel.
- Split complementary color use 3 colors, a base color and 2 colors on either side of its complement on the color wheel.
- Triadic colors are evenly spaced around the color wheel.
We also learned about the psychology of color.
Each color is associated with different meanings such as red symbolizes
strength, love, anger and orange symbolizes confidence, bravery,
etc.
- Warm colors often evoke feelings of happiness, optimism, energy. Warm colors refers to reds, oranges, yellows.
- Cool colors are usually calming and soothing but can also express sadness. Cool colors refers to blues, purples, green.
- Black adds an air of sophistication, elegance and also mystery.
- White gives the impression of clean, virtuous, healthy.
CLASS SUMMARY
For week 7, we were assigned with double exposure assignment as well as
the poster design assignment. We are required to start working on the
double exposure assignment with the help of the tutorial video. He also
went through the process during tutorial class to help us better
understand. He even reviewed our project 1 exercise of the previous week
before we had to submit it.
This practical is divided into 2 parts. First exercise we are supposed to
create a double exposure picture while referring to the tutorial video.
Images for the first part are provided in the google drive link. For the
second part of the exercise we are supposed to create our own double exposure
picture with our own picture.
PART 1 EXERCISE
For part 1 we were given this image to do the double exposure effect on.
I brought the original image into photoshop and made edits as per instruction
Final Image
PART 2 EXERCISE
For part 2 exercise I decided to use my own image.
I turned the image into black and white
I imported my image to Adobe Photoshop
I used the quick selection tool and selected subject. Then I clicked on the
select and mask tool to edit my mask. Under the 'Output To' option I changed
it to New Layer with Layer Mask.
I added a new solid color layer
I placed the background image and applied clipping mask to photo.
I changed the layer mode to lighten
Added two clouds and changed its color to blue. Then I made a new
hue/saturation adjustment layer to adjust the color of the clouds.
Then I added the sun image and reduced its brightness.
I changed the solid color layer to blue.
I added a gradient map
REFLECTIONS
This was a very educational assignment. It taught me how to overlay images. It taught me how to make the double exposure effect. This exercise also taught me to use gradient map adjustment layer.
