Week 2 Project 1A Part 1
LECTURES
For the lecture in week 2, Mr. Fauzi went through the basic rules of
composition. We learned about important factors such as focal point, scale
&hierarchy, balance, white space. Every composition requires a strong
focal point as it helps the viewers eyes to notice the most important
elements of the piece. Scale and hierarchy help in drawing and taking away
attention from certain elements. To master asymmetrical balance is to
think of each element having a weight to it. White space/empty space helps
balancing the main focus of a composition.
We also learned about the different techniques used to organize our
composition such as rule of thirds, golden ratio, framing &
cropping. In rule of thirds, you divide a composition into 9 parts with
four intersection points. And you position important elements in the
four intersection points. Golden Ratio is a mathematical ratio, which is
used for creating organic and natural looking compositions. To apply
golden ratio, set your dimensions to 1 : 1 : 618
CLASS SUMMARY
In week 2, the we started working on the first part of project 1 :
Physical Collage design. Where we cut out pieces from an old magazine and
place them together to form a composition. The teacher helped us and gave
us feedback on our work during the class. We were required to make 3
example compositions and submit them in google classroom. From this the
teacher will approve one of them, which will be our final submission.

Physical Collage
For this assignments, the teacher instructed us to make 3 composition
designs with the cut out pieces from a magazine, from which the teacher
will approve the best one for our final submission.

From the three composition, Mr. Fauzi Yusoff approved the first
composition, after which I finally glued it all together
This was a interesting but also challenging assignment. It taught me decision making as I had to be decisive on what elements from the magazine I should cut out. I also needed to take into the factor that I will not be able to go back after I cut it out. I also learned to develop more of an artistic and creative eye as I had to look for elements that will look nice in the composition. I also needed to find creative and interesting ways to combine the elements in an aesthetic manner. This assignment helped me better my composition skills. I overall enjoyed completing this assignment.
