Week 1 Practical

LECTURE

For the lecture during the first week, our lecturer went through the basic of photoshop, why we need to learn it and what we can achieve with it.  With photoshop we can express our creativity, create graphic designs, restore old images, integrate graphics with text in an artistic way, make use of brushes, change the photo color, rectify mistakes in photographs. We learned about Photo manipulation and digital imaging. Photo manipulation is the alteration or transformation of photograph. Digital imaging converts printed text, artwork, photographs into digital images using a digital scanner or another imaging device. He also provided us with necessary tips to become a successful graphic designer.



CLASS SUMMARY

For week 1, the lecturer briefly explained the contents that we will cover in this module. He also went through on the software we will be using for this module as well. We were also assigned a practical which is due this week, in which we have to list down 3 graphic design work from Pinterest and explain why we like the design. He briefed us on first part of project 1, where we we have to cut out parts from an old magazine to make a poster collage. 


WEEK - 1 PRACTICAL

We were required to make a Pinterest account and make a new board labeled as 'DPI'. Then we had to list down 3 graphic design work from Pinterest and explain why we like the designs.

Description: When I first saw this piece, I was intrigued by the overall aesthetics and emotions conveyed in this piece.
This Poster expressed : This piece conveys the feeling of peace and comfort, which you would feel in a temple. Aspects of this piece like the yellow flowers, the girl with her eyes closed, help emphasis the mood of the piece

Description: This piece has high contrasting colors which makes it very readable and aesthetic. It also contributes to the energy of the message of the piece.

This Poster expressed : This poster visualizes the different art forms people use to express themselves. The high contrasting and saturated colors contribute to the intense energy of the piece. The font used for the title ‘Express Yourself’ further emphasis the message as well as the energy of the piece.

Description: The incorporation of the collage of different pictures to make a new combined picture is what actually drew me into this piece.

This Poster expressed: This collage was made using unused photos from their previous campaign to emphasize the sustainable nature of their company. The different layers of the image and different textures added, along with the pose and expression of the person contributes to the playfulness of the piece

REFLECTIONS

Week 1 : (The practical)

This assignment was fascinating as I was able to explore different graphic design styles on Pinterest to figure out my tastes and interests. Although it was an interesting practical, it was challenging to express what aspects of the designs drew me into it as well as express it in words. Overall it was an interesting exercise to begin this module.
